Elders Yong and Tai Tsai

Elders/Deacons Yong and Tai Tsai

Elders Yong and Tai Tsai were among the first converts in New Hope International Church, joining in 1988 when they were just fresh out of college. Ever since then, both Yong and Tai have committed their lives to building God’s church. As Yong says, “The Scriptures tell me to live for Christ and not for myself. When I do this, I will find fulfillment and God’s purpose for my life. That’s why I became a Christian at 24 years-old, and that’s why I still serve God today.”

Yong and Tai serve on the eldership board of the church, and Tai oversees church office functions and provides crucial administrative support to pastors and ministry leaders. Yong volunteers his time to take care a long list of behind-the-scenes church responsibilities, including handling legal issues, financial counseling for church members, church general management,  maintaining and upgrading church facilities to meet our growing needs, and organizing the Sunday lunch program at the Mercer Island campus. In Christian terminology, both Yong and Tai function as deacons, taking care of the physical needs of the church so that the pastoral leadership can focus on prayer and ministry of the Word.

Born to a Chinese family in Laos, Yong spent his teenage years in Bangkok, Thailand. He is a lead engineer at the Boeing Company, graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, and speaks English, Mandarin, Laotian, and Thai—and understands Cantonese. Tai is from Thailand and holds a degree in business administration. They have one daughter and a Welsh Corgi named Samson. For relaxation, Tai enjoys cooking Thai food and Yong enjoys watching movies, playing golf, remodeling, and studying about financial investments.
